Evening and weekend GP appointments

GP practices across Wakefield are now offering weekend and evening appointments.

The new GP Care Wakefield scheme enables patients across the district to have access to GP support after normal practice hours.

This enables patients to have access to medical advice and, if required, access to a Wakefield GP appointment, through their normal GP practice telephone number between:

·         18:00 and 22:00hrs Monday to Friday

·         and from 09:00 to 15:00hrs Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays

Patients who use the service will be provided with medical advice from a dedicated nursing team, who can then refer them to a GP appointment that day, if required, at one of two sites across the district.

Minor surgery

we are/ pleased to say that the surgery is now able to offer some minor surgical/injection procedures. these will be assessed by Dr. Barnsley and if felt appropriate, the procedures will be carried out usually on a tuesday afternoon/evening by Dr.Barnsley.

Care Navigation

we are pleased to announce that we have engaged with local practices and have started a new system called care navigation. this means that the reception staff may ask you a little more about the nature of your problem as it may be more appropriate that you are seen by a different health care professional rather than your GP.

Young person’s clinic

we are pleased to be able to offer a young person's clinic 10-19 on a tuesday evening between 1740 and 1800.

Online access to medical records.

Extended Opening Hours

The Practice will offer extended opening hours from September 2015.  The day for providing this extended service will be on a Tuesday each week.

(Due to being singled handed GP it may be that the service is offered on an alternate day on some weeks due to other commitments).

The key features are as follows:

  • This service will usually run from 6.30 pm to 7.00 pm each Tuesday [as of 11 June 2019]
  • There will be a clinician ie a HCA, nurse or GP available for these pre-booked appointments
  • The Practice will not be open for any other services such as enquiries or collection of prescriptions or indeed receiving telephone calls
  • During extended hours opening, the Practice will remain locked, with door entry system available (see posters on the door)

Please note that we will not be offering an urgent, emergency or walk in service, which will continue to be provided by the Out of Hours service.

The appointments will be released for booking in advance of the appointment day and are intended primarily for those patients who find it difficult to attend during normal hours.
